Pediatric Dentistry
Like adults, children need routine general dental care, too. In addition to regular exams and cleanings, pediatric dentistry focuses on prevention and treatment for children’s developing teeth and oral structures. For children who exhibit an increased risk of dental issues, like cavities, we offer a variety of procedures that can mitigate their risks and improve their chances of preventing problems from developing.
Dental Treatments for Children
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride helps children (and adults) better prevent cavities by boosting the strength of tooth enamel – the protective, mineralized layer surrounding your teeth. In addition to hygiene products and, to some extent, tap water, you or your child can also receive a topical fluoride treatment at our dentist’s office to reduce the risks of cavity development.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants describe biocompatible acrylic guards that are painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth (molars). The sealants provide a layer of protection that prevents food particles and plaque from gathering between the cusps of your child’s teeth. Sealants dissolve on their own, as well, so you will not have to schedule an additional appointment to have them removed.
Athletic/Orthodontics Mouthguards
Children who play sports, participate in martial arts, or are otherwise highly-active should always wear mouthguards, especially those who wear braces or a retainer. You can purchase a one-size-fits-all mouthguard at most sporting goods stores, or we can custom-design one for you or your child for improved comfort and stability.
