3 Tips For Better Brushing

You’ve probably heard it from everyone: You need to brush your teeth. Done properly, you can help protect your smile from serious oral health concerns. However, if you don’t brush properly, then you may not be protecting your smile from tooth decay or gum health issues. Fortunately, we have tips for better brushing.

Use the Right Toothbrush and Toothpaste

To complete the task, you need the right tools. We suggest picking up a toothbrush with soft bristles. Brushing too hard with hard or medium bristles can actually damage tooth enamel. You should also select a toothpaste that contains fluoride, an ingredient that helps strengthen your smile against cavities. You can pick up toothpastes that whiten or freshen breath, just as long as the ADA seal of approval is on the packaging. For kids, be sure to pick up an age appropriate option. You can even let your little one pick up a toothbrush with his/her favorite character on them.

Twice a Day for Two Minutes

You should brush your teeth twice a day (once in the morning and again before bed) for at least two minutes each session. You should approach the teeth at a 45-degree angle. You should also use circular motions when cleaning the front of the teeth. When you brush properly, you remove food particles from on and between the teeth, preventing bacteria from breaking the particles down. The process can help safeguard your teeth against tooth decay and gingivitis.

Kids too!

Children need to brush and floss as often an as thoroughly as adults. Just like you, they need oral maintenance to protect their smile from the onset of cavities and/or gingivitis. If you have any questions about brushing or caring for your smile from home, please give us a call.
