TMJ Treatment

Do you often experience jaw pain or headaches? If so, you may suffer from a jaw issue known as TMJ disorder (temporomandibular joint disorder). TMJs connect the lower jaw to the skull. A patient may feel discomfort when the joints get damaged, inflamed, or misaligned.

What are the Symptoms of TMJ Disorder?

The symptoms can range from jaw and head pain to issues opening and closing the mouth. Common symptoms include:

  • Chronic headaches
  • Clicking or popping sounds when the jaw moves
  • Face swollen on one or both sides
  • Jaw, face, neck, or shoulder muscle spasms
  • Locked jaw
  • Pain and ringing in one or both ears

What Can Be Done About TMJ?

We can treat TMJ disorder with a custom-designed oral appliance, also known as a nightguard. This appliance helps the jaw rest in a more comfortable position. This, in turn, helps heal the jaw’s joints and reduce discomfort from the disorder. We are happy to discuss oral appliance options with you when you visit us for an exam or cleaning.
